The Master & The Apprentice

New window and door engineer apprentice

As a local, family business, McLeod Glaziers are committed to employing local people and playing our role in helping nurture the next generation of talent.

Last month, we were delighted to welcome Ben Ayton, aged 19, into our business as an Apprentice Windows and Door Engineer.

Ben, from Perth, will be working directly alongside Mike McManamon, our Senior Service Engineer who has over 34 years of experience within the window and door sector.

Working first-hand with Mike is a great opportunity for Ben to learn from the very best and accelerate his career within a very specialised sector.

4 weeks into his new role, Ben has been working on various tasks such as changing window handles, replacing door locks and boarding up vandalised windows, to name a few.

Although Ben will predominantly focus on the maintenance side of our business, he has also worked alongside our talented glaziers to give him a better understanding of everything we do here at McLeods.

We sat down with Ben to find out how he has been enjoying his experience so far and to ask Mike how well his new apprentice has been in his new role…

Ben commented, “I’ve enjoyed it a lot. I couldn’t ask for a better person to learn from and to work with. I’m looking forward to gaining more experience and learning more advanced, technical aspects of the role.”

Mike, said, “Ben’s been very good since he started – he’s very keen to learn and he listens well to everything I explain to him.

Ben’s been very competent at what he’s done so far and I’m confident at even this early stage, I’d be able to give him the tools and the van keys and send him off on his own to change a lock barrel.

In the next few months, the plan is to teach Ben how to fix more advanced complex systems and for him to join me on any of our 24/7 emergency call-outs.”

Once again, everyone at McLeods would like to give a warm welcome to Ben and we look forward to having you as part of our team for many more years to come.
