From our family to yours since 1836

History and Heritage

We have always been at the heart of the Perth community, helping to bring light to homes and businesses, since 1836. With much-improved products and increasing environmental awareness, we provide a wide range of home improvement services. Today we’re still driven to provide great value products and local, friendly service.

We are and always will be committed to employing local people, using local suppliers and supporting the local community.

Our first glazing shop

My father, James, who originally worked for McLeod Glaziers, started Perthshire Glazing Company and the business prospered through the 1970s. With the first office in Methven Street, he acquired McLeods with the shop located in St. Johns Place, now café Tabou. The building frontage was constructed with high ceiling, allowing the large panes of glass to be manoeuvred in and out, safely.

Today, the business based in Inveralmond has a purpose-built showroom and workshop named Rosemary House after my sister, Vanda’s middle name. The Perthshire Glazing Company – PGC Group – today provides a range of home improvement services through McLeod Glaziers, Meldrum Construction and Garden Room Warehouse.

From Perth to Germany then home

I always enjoyed helping out in the business and working with the glaziers in the summer holidays. The care and attention to detail that was needed to make something just right always impressed me.

As a youngster, I worked with Mick McManamon, helping to carry Mick’s tools and would sit in awe watching this experienced glazier go about his business. It’s a matter of real pride for me that Mick is still with the company, being with us for over 35 years.

After leaving High School, I joined the Army as part of the Junior Leader programme. I was fortunate to complete seven years with the Army, serving in West Germany, across the UK, Cyprus, Canada and South Georgia. Importantly, I learnt the value of teamwork and camaraderie. Moving back into the business, after the loss of my sister Vanda, I was able to utilise my leadership and trade skills.

Family values, through and through

Gavin, my nephew, joined our team in 2008. Growing up Gavin was always fascinated by the glass polishing machines, used in the repair of crystal glasses, chandeliers, tabletops and mirrors. Gavin loved seeing the team making something that, often had great value to our customers, made good again. A focus on care and improvement is something that drives us, and I’m still very proud of today. Gavin’s early experience in retail and customer facing roles has assisted in the growth and success of the business.

We like to grow with a family focus and two families, Cunningham and Websters’ have three family members working within the PGC Group. The importance of family to our team cannot be overstated. This approach isn’t just to direct family but underpins the business. We take great pride in the level of care that we extend to all of our team. Jack, my son, has already tried out my seat for size. I’m looking forward to him seeing the talents and skills that our team provide.

What makes me proud

I am incredibly proud of what our team has achieved, developing the business into a group that provides a wide range of quality services across Scotland.

One of my favourite projects goes right back to my school days when McLeod Glaziers replaced all of the windows at Perth High School. This close bond with the school has endured, with myself and Gavin being Ambassadors since 2015. Our commitment to education has also seen increasingly close ties with the Developing Young Workforce (DYW) programme. Blane Wood, one of the first young people through the programme, joined the business as an Apprentice in 2015. He is now in the third year of his apprenticeship and developing his skills.

Winning the Courier Business Awards – Family Business of the Year in 2017 was a highlight for me. The award recognises our family values and the commitment of our team to high-quality customer service.

We have always been driven to play an active part in our local community, supporting a wide range of charitable causes. Among others, we have supported the development of community football facilities, youth teams and health-related groups, such as Perth Autism. As well as others, we passionately support two causes close to my heart. The MS Society provided amazing care for my sister, and Help For Heroes, plays a vital part in the lives of those who have served us all. Supporting our community, helping people to live active lives, is very important to us.

We’re here to help you

Today, McLeod Glaziers and our Sister Companies, continue to provide real service across the community. We have a great team, supported by loyal customers who we appreciate. I know that it’s providing exceptional value, as well as being local and responsive that is important to our customers.

I am genuinely proud to be a part of Perth, delivering a service to the community in which we live.
