Repair / Maintenance

As well as new installations we offer repair and maintenance services. Trusted by Perth and Kinross Council, as well as many other housing providers, our in-house teams are experienced in repairs and maintenance for double glazed windows and doors, including glazing units, frames, hinges, locks and stays.

Double Glazing Repairs
We can solve any problems associated with double glazed window repairs. Whether your double glazed unit has misted up, the glass is broken, or the window will not shut properly, we’re here to help with your double glazing repairs. All double glazed units come with our five-year guarantee.

If the glass has misted between the two panes or one of the panes is broken you will need to have a new unit made. This will require a glazier to come to your property and measure. We will normally be able to return with a replacement unit within 7-10 working days. We also offer an express order service where possible, so that in certain circumstances the unit can be re-made and fitted within 24 hours. If both sides of the glass are broken we can glaze a board or a single pane of glass into the aperture, or build a sub-frame and board over the window. If just one side of the unit is broken we can use a clear safety film to hold the broken glass together or de-glaze the one broken side, leaving the other intact.

We can replace a double glazed unit using toughed tinted glass, specialist solar films, low-E for insulation and UV protection.

We have an extensive network of suppliers so that you can be confident we will find it, make and fit it. If your window will not shut correctly, or needs a new locking mechanism we carry out repairs wherever possible. We have specialist contractors who carry hinges, handles and locking mechanisms on their vehicles and have extensive contacts, so that we can often obtain obsolete stock or can adjust to fit.

Roof and Skylight Repairs
We have a 24/7 emergency board up and make safe service, with all at height work that cannot be glazed on the first visit. With much glazing work being carried out at height, it is essential to have experienced glaziers and the correct insurances. We can provide method statements and risk assessments, as required for commercial projects.

Sometimes it is possible to remove a frame from inside the building. Alternatively, access may be via an adjacent window. Sometimes there is no other option but to use access equipment or scaffolding. With roofs and skylights, it all depends on the provision of safe access. You can rely on the professional team at McLeod Glaziers to determine the most appropriate solution. Whilst a good-old-fashioned ladder is still used a lot of the time for household jobs, other access equipment can be utilised, including tower scaffolds, step scaffolding systems, cherry pickers and specialist cranes.

All glass in skylights and roofs of any kind must conform with BS6206 and safety glass must be used. Whilst wired glass is regularly used in household and business roof glazing projects, laminates are popular as they remain in one piece when broken and have the appearance of normal window glass.

Double glazed units are frequently utilised in skylights and other places that require access equipment. You can be confident that, whatever your glazing problem, our glaziers are likely to have faced the challenge previously and will find a safe, effective solution.
