Rotary has been operating the Shoebox Scheme for 25 years and have delivered more than 1 million boxes to communities in need, across Eastern Europe.
This Christmas, boxes will be sent and distributed across Ukraine, Moldova and Romania to communities and families in need.
The relationship between McLeods, Meldrum and the Rotary Club came about due to a family connection.
McLeods employee, Kirsty Robertson’s father, Jimmy, is a long-standing member of The Rotary Club of Perth.
Jimmy originally gave Kirsty three boxes and asked if she would be able to fill them through friends and colleagues at work.
McLeods and Meldrum took this on as a personal challenge and we asked all of our team to donate items for the shoeboxes. In total 30 shoeboxes were filled to the brim with toys, clothes and household items.
Jimmy Robertson said, “I’m just so chuffed that it’s been such a success. I never expected to receive anything like this. It’s way beyond my expectations and it’s a real credit to all the staff at McLeods & Meldrum”.
The Rotary Club of Perth, President, Gordon Hay also welcomed the generous donation with open arms, “A big thanks to all the staff – tremendous effort, absolutely exceptional – it will do a power of good in Eastern Europe”.
Club President, Gordon continued, “Donations this year are even more important than usual. Due to the COVID outbreak less people have been able to donate in person in shops or to the club directly, so donations are even more appreciated this year”.
Derek Petterson, CEO of McLeods & Meldrum concluded, “We are absolutely delighted to take part in this year’s Shoebox Appeal and we know just how important all of our donations will be to families and communities across Eastern Europe, especially at this Festive time of year. I am very proud of our team for coming together and producing such a fantastic effort”.
